Licensing Explained

Our goal is to keep the tools affordable and accessible for everyone — from individual users to large companies.
This article explains why we use a per-user licensing model rather than licensing per tool run or per Revit session.

Note: Licenses currently operate on a floating basis — anyone can take a license if one is available.
In the future, we plan to align more closely with Autodesk's named-user model.

Why is the license tied to a user and not just when a tool is run?

At just $40 USD per seat, each user gains access to 150+ tools, many of which have saved both me and my clients thousands of dollars in a single day.
For perspective, many other providers charge more for a single tool than we do for our entire collection.

Our goal has always been to deliver maximum value at a fair cost, ensuring the tools remain accessible to both small businesses and larger firms.

Why per-user licensing is important

Licenses are assigned per user, not per tool run or per Revit session.
This approach is critical to keeping pricing fair and the business sustainable.

If licenses were only checked out when a tool was run:

  • A firm with 150 staff could potentially operate with just 10 licenses by sharing them.
  • This would undermine the business, making it impossible to maintain or grow.
  • It would force me to raise prices dramatically, potentially up to $1000 per seat.
  • Such a price increase would make the tools unaffordable for single users and small businesses.

By using per-user licensing, everyone contributes fairly, which supports ongoing development and improvements.

Keeping costs low for everyone

The current per-user model helps ensure that:

  • Prices stay low and predictable for all users.
  • The business remains sustainable and able to grow.
  • I can continue to release new tools and features over time.
  • Pricing has remained stable — since Bonus Tools launched in February 2013, the base price has never been increased (though currency fluctuations may have caused minor changes at times).
  • Over the years, we’ve continued to add new and valuable tools, keeping the suite diverse so there’s something useful for everyone.

This approach ensures that everyone benefits, no matter the size of their team, while keeping the service sustainable for the long term.
